BLACK DEATH

Updated: Jun 29, 2020

Why does the colour of our skin,

Determine the content of our heart,

Why do the fair have a grin,

While they treat the dark as dirt.

Why are these lies been told,

Saying we know not how to act,

Expecting us to sit and fold,

While the truth is being warped,

What makes us less human,

Than those who treat us like animals,

What exactly is their plan,

What makes us so abnormal.

Why all this pain,

Why the unnecessary fame,

What do they gain,

When my brothers are maimed.

Why do we have to fight,

For what was always our right,

Why do we choose night,

When the day is so bright.

They treat us like inferiors,

But when we bite back,

They act as our superiors,

Just cause we’re black.

Why did George have to die,

Where does Sean now lie,

Tiana didn’t even try,

Yet over her we cry.

Why do our sisters suffer,

And as times get tougher,

We try to push further,

yet they get rougher.

Why did they have to lose their life,

Why do husbands lose their wives,

They weren’t armed without a knife,

But they’ve caused so much strife.

when did our protectors,

Those meant to be our defenders,

Become life enders,

A serial killers contender.

Why so much hate,

Why do they decide our fate,

How long so we have to wait,

Before more lie late.

Where’s all the love,

When did humanity fall,

Why do we mourn our beloved,

As they answer death’s call.

Where’s all the sympathy,

Why the lack of empathy,

They only feel apathy,

At the result of their brutality.

Why can’t our children grow,

Why all the blood flow,

When did hearts become so shallow,

As to take the soul of another fellow.

I missed the days

When things were normal,

When death wasn’t the price to pay,

And we all stood as human.
